Juvederm® Ultra Plus
Juvederm® Ultra and Juvederm® Ultra Plus
You’ve probably heard of Juvederm®, the popular filler that has been used by thousands of people. These two products are close in comparison, yet distinctly different.
Core Components of Both
The following are similarities between all Juvederm® products:
- All Juvederm® products are hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers.
- They are injected into the dermis.
- Each type of Juvederm® adds volume and smooths out wrinkles by replenishing natural HA that has been lost.
- Juvederm® products are created using a process called HYLACROSS, which makes it smoother and increases the predictability of results.
Key Differences Between Juvederm® Ultra Plus and Juvederm® Ultra
Cross-linking – Cross-linking provides stability and viscosity in the Juvederm® formulas. Juvederm® Ultra Plus is a more highly cross-linked formula than Ultra, 8% compared to 6%. Therefore Juvederm® Ultra Plus has an enhanced filling ability, is more stable and is thicker.
Injection Sites – Juvederm® Ultra Plus is injected deeper into the dermis. Juvederm® Ultra is primarily injected into higher areas of the dermis.
Wrinkle Reduction – While both versions are very effective at improving the look of wrinkles and folds, clinical studies that measured results at 2-weeks, 12 weeks, 24 weeks, 36 weeks and 48 weeks found that Juvederm® Ultra Plus had slightly better results and those results held up better over time. A second study of patients that had a repeat treatment found similar results.
How Long the Results Last – Juvederm® Ultra Plus on average lasts a little bit longer than the Ultra version. Typically Juvederm® Ultra Plus results will last around one year, whereas Juvederm® Ultra results last about 9 months to a year.
What Juvederm Ultra Plus is Best For
Significant Lip Enhancement – The ability to fill more effectively makes Juvederm® Ultra Plus the best option for those that want dramatic results.
Deeper wrinkles – Juvederm® Ultra Plus was designed to go deeper into the skin to fill out more severe wrinkles.
Naso-labial folds – Again, Juvederm® Ultra Plus outperforms when it comes to correcting naso-labial folds because it’s thicker and goes deeper into the dermis.
Areas with greater volume loss – Because of its thicker consistency and cross-linking Juvederm® Ultra Plus works better for those that have significant volume loss.
Facial Shaping – Unlike Juvederm® Ultra, Juvederm® Ultra Plus is injected into the fat layers, which is ideal for facial shaping.
What Juvederm® Ultra Works Well For
Moderate wrinkles – If you have slight to moderate wrinkles Juvederm® Ultra is the better bet as it has a good consistency for handling these issues and won’t be overkill.
Scar Correction – Its thinner consistency makes Juvederm® Ultra better equipped at correcting the look of scars.
Slight Lip Enhancement– If you only want a slight enhancement to your lips Juvederm® Ultra is an excellent option. Its finer molecules give it a silkiness that works well for natural lip enhancement.
It may not be quite as cross-linked as its Plus counterpart, but Juvederm® Ultra still does a great job at fixing more superficial issues. Both products are excellent options for a variety of facial and dermis concerns
